Claude can edit your talking-head video inside your own CapCut desktop project instead of DaVinci Resolve. It writes the project's timeline while CapCut is closed. It never clicks around in CapCut and never uses computer use. Then you export in CapCut, and Claude publishes or schedules the export through reelport.io.
What you need
- The international CapCut desktop app, version 9.x, on macOS or Windows.
- Not supported: JianYing (it encrypts its projects) and the CapCut web and mobile apps.
- CapCut 10.x isn't tested yet.
- The Reelport plugin, added to Claude (see Getting started). Type
/reelport-capcut. - A reelport.io plan. CapCut editing uses the same sign-in and plan as everything else.
What Claude does
- Cuts repeats, false starts, resets and long pauses. Pacing is tight or natural.
- Adds punch-ins on jump cuts and slow push-ins on your strongest lines.
- Places screen recordings and screenshots on the words that mention them, on a dark plate, cropped to fill, or picture-in-picture.
- Adds a grade (adjustment layer) and a music bed about 15 dB under your voice.
- Adds captions styled like a text you made in CapCut, plus a
captions.srtfile you can import anywhere. - Places motion graphics on their own track with subtle UI sounds. They go on top of your current project and keep your own edits.
- Renders a small preview before anything is written into your project.
Step by step
-
In CapCut: make a new project, import the camera file (plus any screen recordings, screenshots and music), name the project, then quit CapCut. Use Cmd+Q on a Mac, or close it from the tray on Windows. CapCut rewrites its projects when it quits.
-
Once only, the template project: make a 20-second project with:
- a video clip on the timeline
- a music clip with a fade-in
- an adjustment layer with a little saturation
- one text styled the way your captions should look (your brand font works well)
Claude copies every object from projects your own CapCut saved, so the files always match your CapCut version.
-
In Claude: type
/reelport-capcutand name the project. Claude asks:- pacing
- how cutaways sit
- whether to use screenshots
- captions
- music
-
Claude transcribes your audio on your computer, reads the transcript back after cutting, and fixes leftover stumbles.
-
Claude builds the timeline and makes the preview.
-
Claude asks whether CapCut is fully quit, then installs the edit into your project:
- It backs up the old files first, into a
_backup_before_…folder. - It refuses while CapCut is open.
- It refuses if you changed the project in the meantime. Claude then reads your changes and builds on them.
- It backs up the old files first, into a
-
Open CapCut and click the project. Tweak anything you like.
-
Export in CapCut, then ask Claude to post or schedule the file. This works the same as Scheduling and channels.
